PC Fair off to a lukewarm start

PC starts today and judging from the crowd between 11am to 4pm, it was a bit disappointing - there appeared to be more sales assistants than visitors the first two hours and the crowd only picked up sometime into 2pm.

After 2pm

There were bargains, without doubt, and the street smart would yet again walk off with a good deal. Anyone buying anything without bargaining is foolish to say the least.

Hard sell?

Pitching against each other this time around are the miniature laptops known variously as e-laptops and e-pcs (the latter's name culled from Asus's model no doubt). Some antivirus with a funny name - Kapersky - were seen being unloaded at almost any stall. Prices vary from RM70 to slightly more. Real cheap if you asked me.

WE HAVE MOVED! NEW LOOK, BETTER CONTROL FOR KL THIS MONTH!

Greetings!

If you are a first timer here, welcome. If you have re-discovered us, congratulations.

Because the site is getting too BIG to manage using traditional web-design software, we have decided to upgrade the content management to use Blogger's Blogging engine.

This is done for several reasons, including ease of writing content as well as allowing for feedback and content syndication.

We would appreciate if you will update your Favourites accordingly since the old pages will only return an error message as this new site becomes fully functional.

The content in the old site is still there but in new pages. Site navigation has not been changed much. All the things you are looking for are at left and the tools at right.

Additions to this new site is the subscribe feature which will be implemented soon, as well as the Comments section, which is fully functional. The categories section has been used to make it easier for you to surf and bookmark content. In short, we will continue to improve our content for your ease of use despite the financial constraints of doing so. Please inform your friends if they share the same bookmark and update your favourites accordingly.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to write to us.

Thank you for your patience!

WiFi for Entire Kuala Lumpur City

This piece of news caught our eyes. If true, then KL will be among the first cities in the world in this region to have free WiFi connectivity. So, bring your WiFi devices and stay connected!

Packet One to deploy 3,500 WiFi hotposts in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd intends to deploy 3,500 WiFi hotspots in Kuala Limpur over a few phases in collaboration with KL City Hall and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan said this project, known as the Kuala Lumpur Wireless Metropolitan, was part of the government’s initiative to spur demand for broadband.
“This initiative targets to achieve 90% household broadband penetration in the Klang Valley by 2010,” he said at the launch of the project yesterday.
The project also aimed to provide citizens with free 512-kilobits per second broadband connectivity for two years.
“We would be the first city in the world to be deployed on the WiMAX 2.3GHz (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) backhaul infrastructure,” he said.
To date, 200 WiFi hotspots have been set up in the KL City Centre in conjunction with the World Congress on Information Technology 2008 to be held from May 18 to 22.

What Happened to Putrajaya Wetlands?

I was at the Putrajaya Wetlands recently. It was a far cry when it was when I visited it several years ago when it first opened. There was an air of busyness over the area with friendly guides manning the main area of the lake running about the place, attending to visitor's needs. I also remember taking part in one of the social acitivities there, a fishing competition for families, if I am not mistaken. And the fun day drew me back again and again, just to enjoy the serene atmosphere and maybe go for a boat ride.

This last trip, I sensed something different. The place looked deserted. Of course, on a weekday, this was to be expected. But even so, during the past, small groups of people could be seen enjoying a cup of tea at the restaurant overlooking the lake. This time, it was different - the restaurant had closed. Upon enquiry, it had been closed for a month. Is it going to open again? I asked of a a staff working there. Not sure, I was told. I was also told that the management of the Wetlands had been taken over by another. Which explained why I did not see the usual troop of guides and caretakers that I once spotted.

Whoever the new managers are, I hope they will pay some attention to maintaining and promoting this place. Putrajaya is already begging for visitors; another tourist spot left to rot will not help boost its popularity..
